Prof. Markus Reiher, Laboratory for Physical Chemistry, Department of Chemistry and Applied Bioscences, ETH Zürich, Switzerland

Prof. Reiher received his PhD in theoretical chemistry from the University of Bielefeld in 1995, and his habilitation in theoretical chemistry at the University of Erlangen in 2003. He served as Privatdozent at the University of Bonn Oct. 2003 - Mar. 2005 and was a Professor for Physical Chemistry at the University of Jena Apr. 2005 - Jan. 2006. Since 2006 he has been Professor for Theoretical Chemistry at ETH Zürich. He has received several awards such as the OYGA award of the Lise-Meitner-Minerva Center for Computational Chemistry Jerusalem (2010) and the Löwdin Lecture of the University of Uppsala (2018).

Prof. Reiher's research is devoted to general theoretical chemistry with a main focus on the development of theory and algorithms for the calculation of electronic and vibrational structure based on the first principles of quantum mechanics. His projects cover relativistic quantum chemistry, bioinorganic and coordination chemistry, theoretical spectroscopy, and electron-electron correlation in wavefunction-based and density-functional methods. In recent years, he extended his work toward interactive quantum mechanics and the autonomous exploration of reaction mechanisms.
